To Permit or Not?

Most counties in the DMV require permits for commercial and residential projects. At DLC we are experts in securing the correct permit for your project. Check out answers to some of the most asked questions regarding the permit process...

What is the purpose of a permit?

Permits are building code requirements from the local city/county office to ensure that your building project is being done safely and up to par with nationwide and state building codes. The purpose is to protect occupants and building structures.

How do I know if I need a permit?

The fastest way to find out if you need a permit is to call your local county/city office and ask! However, most information is online on the county website. A quick google search will let you know if your need a permit for your deck or not, in this area you definitely do!

Do I need sealed drawings for my permit?

Sealed drawings are created by a local licensed architect. They literally have a stamp of approval on them, ensuring that the drawings were done by a professional and up to par with building codes. Most exterior additions to homes do not require a seal.

Where do I get unsealed drawings?

We provide sealed and unsealed drawings for any project. This is an additional fee and not included in the permit fee.

Securing a permit is hard, can I hire someone to do it?

Yes! That's where we come in. We have secured permits for commercial and residential projects across the eastern corridor, from NY to Virginia. We have established relationships with local offices and actively pursue getting your permits as quickly as possible.

What is the process for expediting a permit with DLC?

We provide a free consultation that addresses the permit needs of your project. We assess if sealed/unsealed drawings are required and go over all required documentation. We ask that all documentation is provided in a timely manner in order to submit the permit quickly and efficiently. Once we submit the permit application we provide daily to weekly updates on the movement of the permit through the permit office. Any additional information needed by the permit reviewer we ask that you return as quickly as possible, this will ensure that your permit is approved in the shortest amount of time.

What is the cost for expediting a permit?

Our permit expediting services starts at $799. The scope and depth of the project determines how much the project will cost. Additional fees billed by the county office will be covered and billed to you after the project is completed.
